Hypotenuse? Really? Okay, okay. Let me tell you a thing. Everyone is all "I hate math, I never use it," but you don't know what you're talking about. It's one thing to say that you can measure distances with right triangles, or that extrapolated out is how the wonders of GPS and map functions work. But here's the cool part: your brain is the only computer that hides processes from itself. You are doing seriously complex math on the fly, 24/7. It has taken decades to program robots to be able to judge distance, and it still takes them forever to calculate it all. You can not only do that in a flash, but it only takes you a second to predict the trajectory of a flying object. the biological computer that is a brain is so fascinating because unlike a computer, it can do a million things at once. Where our machines are spectacular at single complex tasks, we are multitaskers. This requires a lot of compartmentalization to allow for higher thought though. Imagine how annoying it is when you can't forget about your breathing, and you're forced to do it consciously, now expand that to beating your heart, digesting your food, and regulating your hormone levels. All relatively simple tasks, you could make a microchip for each one, and that's what we do. A single computer the size of our brain would not be quite as much of a marvel as what we've managed to grow. We've got a hundred sets of microchips, all strapped together communicating freely with eachother!
Don't get me started on how cool free communication is in the brain. That on top of total plasticity makes our ticker just plain magical!

Our writing club had a "stream of consciousness" quick write, and when the president introduced it, she made a crack at how I suggested "hypotenuse" to be a key word in one of our previous prompt exercises, so that's where the opening came from.
This is pretty much what my mind does on its own when I'm spacing out. I have a pretty one track mind, and a great sensory filtration system.
